How to Plan a Model or Actor Portfolio Shoot in Mumbai

Whether you are an aspiring model, an actor, a dancer or a professional refreshing your image, your portfolio is your first impression. Here is how to prepare for a portfolio shoot in Mumbai so the day is calm and the photographs work for you.

Before the shoot

Six steps to a portfolio that works.

1. Know what the portfolio is for

Agencies, casting calls, a personal brand and Instagram each need a different set of images. Modelling agencies want clean, current pictures that show your face, figure and range; actors need headshots that look like you on an ordinary good day; personal brands need a consistent, polished look. Tell us the goal before the shoot so the lighting, poses and editing style suit it.

2. Plan 3–5 outfits, not ten

Variety matters more than quantity. A solid-coloured basic (a plain black or white top works for almost everyone), something stylish such as a blazer, dress or ethnic look, one pop of colour for personality, and well-fitted jeans or formals for your industry. Avoid loud patterns, logos and creased clothes. We help with styling at the consultation and adjust details on set.

3. Grooming: subtle but sharp

Arrive with clean, moisturised skin, groomed brows, and hair and beard finished the way you normally wear them. Keep nails clean, especially if hands will be in frame. A professional hair and makeup artist is included in the Casting-Ready and Editorial Signature sessions, so you can arrive fresh-faced and let them prepare each look.

4. Practise a few expressions

It sounds silly but it works: try five expressions in the mirror (confident, serious, a soft smile and two of your own) and notice your posture and neck angle. You do not need to be a model; we direct poses throughout the session, and a little practice simply helps you relax sooner.

5. Send a moodboard

Share references or a Pinterest board: a cinematic look, minimal headshots or bold fashion lighting. We build the lighting and editing around the mood you choose, so references save time on the day.

6. Sleep, hydrate, then trust the process

Tired eyes and dry skin show on camera. On the day, the best pictures come when you stop performing: we spend time understanding you, adjust the light to flatter you and keep the studio calm so you feel confident.

Questions

Portfolio shoots, answered.

How much does a portfolio shoot cost in Mumbai?

At PK Photography, studio portfolio sessions start at ₹6,000 for one hour, with longer sessions at ₹18,000 (3–4 hours) and ₹25,000 (5–6 hours). See the portfolio page for what each includes and the current booking terms.

How many outfits should I bring?

Three to five. Choose a plain basic, something stylish, one colourful look and well-fitted jeans or formals for your field, and skip logos and loud patterns.

Is hair and makeup included?

Yes in the Casting-Ready (3–4 hours) and Editorial Signature (5–6 hours) sessions, which include a hair and makeup artist. The one-hour Portfolio Launch Session does not include it. Outfits are your own in every package.

I have never modelled. Can I still do a portfolio?

What do I receive after the shoot?

All raw photos via an online link, then 5, 15 or 20 professionally edited photographs depending on the session, with advice on which images suit your industry and help resizing them for agencies and social media.

Where is the studio?
